You have to take into account that the grengun is only good when you have the height over your opponent. When below or on equal ground it is pretty hard getting good hits and the grengun is at disadvantage. Players have to think more strategically when moving around the asteroids making sure there is enough shelter when moving in lower grounds.

At first all weapons felt kind of underpowered , that's the danger of nerfing things. Then I took a 50% handicap to match the average players' level , and I find them plenty deadly Razz

Grenade gun is fine because of the self damage , most effective in caves but can be countered with shotgun. Maybe it could have a smaller ammo reserve and longer reload time so that each shot counts more.
